Tashme was the largest Japanese Canadian internment camp in British Columbia during World War II. Located in Sunshine Valley, just east of Hope, BC, it operated from 1942 to 1946 and housed over 2,600 people at its peak. Today, the Sunshine Valley Tashme Museum preserves this history. Located in the original butcher shop, it features immersive exhibits, artifacts, and a replica shack that offers a glimpse into daily life during internment. You can learn more or plan a visit through the Sunshine Valley Tashme Museum website.
